This is the seventh installment in a series highlighting the basketball teams participating in The Bank of Missouri Heartland Hoopfest 2008.

This will be the first high school varsity girls game played at The Bank of Missouri Heartland Hoopfest. McCluer South Berkeley from St. Louis and Millington Central out of Tennessee will be battling it out for the win. McCluer South is a member of the Suburban East Conference with a 2007/08 record of 27 and 4. With five returning lettermen, they are assured of a perfect match-up with Millington Central. McCluer's Monai Douglass won 1st Team All Conference last season. Markeita Baker and Briana Hawthorne earned a 2nd Team All Conference, and Lametria Jackson was picked for 3rd Team All Conference. Senior Monai Douglass is currently being recruited by Arkansas State.

Millington Central is brimming of talent with six returning lettermen. LaTesa McLaughlin broke the Shelby/Metro and State record with 270 steals in a single season last year. McLaughlin was also one of the leading scorers and led the team in steals on a team that gave up 31 points in one game. The four year captain has verbally committed to the University of Tennessee at Martin and maintains Honor Roll status

Ashley Robinson is a 3 year letterman and starter. The leading starter has also led the team in blocked shots and free throw shooting percentage. Robinson has verbally committed to the University of Memphis.

Michele Brown is being recruited Rhodes College. She is a 4 year letterman and is also a multi-sport athlete that excels in the classroom and maintains Honor Roll status.

Jasmine Newsome is currently being recruited by Ole Miss, Kentucky, USM, LA Tech and a list of other division I schools. She led the team in scoring, free throw shooting percentage and assist. Newsome is a 3 year letterman and starter. She is also co-captain for the Lady Trojans.

Tamarah Brandon is a 3 year starter and letterman. She is being recruited by Louisville and USM. She was also one of the rebound leaders.

Olivia Maddox is a 3 year starter and letterman. She is being recruited by Clemson, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Mizzou, LA Tech and Louisville.

Stan Gatlin says he would characterize his team's style of play as, "a balanced offensive attack utilizing both a deliberate half court style and fast break opportunities." Gatlin adds, "On defense we employ an aggressive up-tempo style of play to dictate the tempo."

Millington Central is defending a 37 - 2 record in the District 14-AAA Conference.

This game between McCluer South Berkeley and Millington Central will take place at the Perry Park Center at 7 p.m. It will be followed by the game between Maplewood and Mitchell (Memphis, TN) at 8:35 p.m. Information on this game will be coming your way next week.
